Alexander Khoroshavin, head of the Sakhalin Region, which hosts large-scale oil and gas production projects with the involvement of international companies, presented the region’s investment potential in the Republic of Korea.

“In 2009, we extracted over 15 million metric tons [300,000 bbl/d] of oil and 19 billion cu m of gas. Our offshore projects Sakhalin-I and Sakhalin-II are well known around the world. Last year, Russia’s first liquefied natural gas facility started to operate as part of Sakhalin-II.”

Khoroshavin said the region also had potential in the coal industry.

“In 2010, we are planning to mine about four million tons of coal, of which more than a million will be exported,” he said.
