MOSCOW, November 10 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian interior minister used his annual Police Day address on Tuesday to remind police chiefs that officers should point their weapons at criminals, and not aim them at law-abiding citizens.

Interior Minister Adilgerei Magomedtagirov was assassinated on June 5, 2009. Abdurazak Abakarov, head of logistics at the ministry, was also killed and another six officials injured in the attack.

Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said one man was charged with carrying out the attack and the other two with being accomplices to the crime.

He said the organizer of the crime would be charged "in the near future," although the mastermind was yet to be identified.

Markin said there was ample evidence to confirm the theory that the minister"s "professional activity" was the main reason for his assassination.

That was the third assassination attempt on Magomedtagirov, who had been the interior minister since 1998. The minister was known for his high profile stance on militants and large-scale anti-terrorist operations.
